American Strikers, why we lack greatness

An analysis of all current notable American Strikers, and why our country struggles to find a star up top
(note, landon donovan, and clint dempsey are not being considered even though they play striker frequently for USMNT,they have already proven their skill)
 Teal Bunbury
-A 21-year old who plays for Sporting KC, who surprisingly switched national team affiliations earlier this year to the USA. Had a stellar rookie year in 2010 scoring 6 goals primarily coming of the bench, enjoyed a great start to the 2011 campaign, but quickly calmed down before scoring 2 goals in the past 2 weeks.
Why He Has the Potential
-he has almost everything one would want in a striker, tall, and a very built body, fast, great finishing skills, and a very good on the ball skills
Why He Doesn't
-Teal is a hot and cold striker, and questions have been raised about his mental toughness, but the biggest reason why he may not have success, is that his work rate, and runs off the ball are terrible at times, which in the international game and in Europe will have an immediate impact on one's survival
Outlook
-Teal will continue to thrive in the MLS for the next year or two before making a move to Europe, probably a smaller club in the EPL, or Bundesliga, which are the 2 leagues his game is best suited for. But He will make the 2014 world cup roster, but will not be a starter.

Justin Braun
-A 24 year old Chivas USA player who flies under the radar a lot, still is yet to receive his first cap with the USMNT, after being called into 2 winter camps in 2010 and 2011. Posted double digit goals for Chivas in 2010, and has 6 goals this campaign, 2 hat tricks.
Why He Has the potential
-tall quick nimble player, who makes great off the ball runs, which creates many opportunities for himself and teammates, his runs are why Chivas USA has improved this year, making more space for their midfielders to create.
Why He Doesn't
-is crafty with his finishes but wastes too many oppertunities to score more goals, he has good foot skills, but never really has proven his ability to beat a defender 1v1.
Outlook
Will be a career MLS player averaging more than goals a year, and will receive a few caps here and there, but will only be lucky to make the 2014 preliminary roster

Jozy Altidore
-Broke onto the world soccer scene as a 17-year old with the New York Red Bulls before making an American Record 10 million$ move to Villarreal in Spain, where he struggled to find playing time, and having several unsuccessful loans he was sold to AZ Alkmaar a dutch powerhouse for around 3 million this summer.
Why He has the potential to be great
-He has already proven himself with the USMNT but not yet in Europe, he is physical and fast and has great finishing skills, with the move to the Dutch leauge, many hope his the only parts of his game that are lacking, making the proper runs, technical skills will blossom, and most people forget that he is only 21.
Why He does not
-this year will decide how Jozy's career pans out if the lacking parts of his game blossom he has the potential to be the greatest American Striker ever, but if he does not perform this year people will be asking more questions than ever
Outlook
-Jozy will probably successfully adapt to the Dutch game and find a niche somewhere in Europe scoring 10- 15 goals over the next years of his career, and will be a starter up top in the 2014 World Cup.

Juan Agudelo
- The American-Colombian Teen Sensation who has only come onto the USMNT scene in the past 8 months, came of the New York Red Bull Academy, and has scored 5 goals this year mainly coming of the bench. Playing with Thierry Henry and Luke Rodgers has only helped his game. Also the cautious approach of his manager Hans Backe, who does not want to throw the teen into the shining lights just yet. Scored against Argentina and South Africa for the USMNT.
Why He has the potential
-Everything about his game is world-class for an 18-year old, his foot skills, finishing, physical nature, his potential is immense.
Why he doesn't
-This does not appear likely but the only way I see this happening is if he gets caught up in the pressure, as is still only a teenager
Outlook-will continue to blossom and learn in the MLS from the Hard Working Luke Rodgers and the World-Class great Henry, will likely make the move to Europe in 2013 at the earliest, and has a decent chance at starting in the 2014 World Cup

Charlie Davies
- the 25 year old famous on-loan DC United Star, is most famous from his near death-car crash in October 2009, then his remarkable recovery. After declining MLS out of College he played with Hammarby in the Swedish League, before transferring to Sochaux in France after the 2009 Confederations Cup. He has thrived during his loan stint at DC United this year scoring 8 goals in 17 appearances.
Why He has the potential
-What made everyone so excited during the Summer of 2009 is slowly reappearing the the MLS this year, by the end of this season he should be ready to compete in France for a starting spot again, He has the heart and willpower to overcome anything
Why he doesn't
-Google the car crash and read all the injuries he received his body is basically a miracle, and he is playing professional soccer, we can only hope he stays healthy
Outlook-
-Will be back to his old self by 2012, with Sochaux, and come back into the USMNT picture being on the 2014 World Cup Roster competing for a starting spot
Forwards with little Potential with the USMNT
Brian Ching- seriously why do people even still mention his name, all he does is head the ball, and act Hawaiian
Robbie Findley- World Cup 2010 is all that needs to be said, he is fast, but has the touch/finishing skills of a semi-pro
Edson Buddle- will be 33 in 2014, has only thrived when playing with lots of great talent and rising under the radar, and he has not really done much in Bundesliga 2
Herculez Gomez- Again like Buddle has flashes of brilliance but just seems to always lose his game with the USMNT, again it has to be considered that he was not even starting for KC Wizards in the MLS
Eddie Johnson-seriously he was a total failure with Fulham/Cardiff City and it looks like he is destined to start his career over in MLS sometime soon
Connor Casey- Just watch the highlights of the US- Costa Rica game in October 2009
Chris Wondolowski- Is a great finisher but nothing else, and had a lot of explaining to do after missing from 2 yards out against Panama
Causes for Our Failures Up top-the MLS is the worst finishing league in the world, players cannot finish the ball, it is disgraceful at times, and many young strikers lack the knowledge how to make the proper run, if they did their game would improve immensely
Most Likely Scenario-Agudelo, Altidore, and Davies will be competing for starting spots in 2014

Who knows who will be the next young star to breakout?
